Excitement grows in Hunmanby ahead of Britain in Bloom judging
Hunmanby in Bloom is hoping Friday the 13th
doesn’t prove unlucky for the visit of Britain in Bloom judges.
It is the first time the group - which was
only set up five years ago - has been entered into the national
competition where it is competing against six other small towns
from across the country.
Judges will visit Hunmanby, near
Scarborough, on Friday 13 August where they will be given a tour of
some of the more spectacular achievements by the group.
Last summer it was awarded a gold medal in the Yorkshire in Bloom
contest and this year the whole community - including Community
Payback teams who have made bird boxes and weeded and painted
across the area - together with staff from Scarborough Borough
Council’s parks departments, have been busy working on
projects.
New developments include the bumblebee bed,
a vegetable bed and a makeover of the railway station.
The group would like to thank everybody for
their hard work and urge the community to keep on working hard in
the run-up to judging day.
Scarborough Borough Council parks and
countryside boss Roger Burnett said: “Volunteers in Hunmanby
continue to do a terrific job and the level of community
involvement is particularly impressive.
“There has been a tremendous amount of work
put into Hunmanby over the past five years and volunteers should be
incredibly proud of what they have achieved.”
